visages dans les ombres...chapter one « Thread Started on May 12, 2008, 9:34am »
The sun streaked through the windows of the large clothes shop in the rue de reines in paris , marie the shop assistant was standing next to her till feeling the warmth on her face then the delightful moment was broken by those two awful women bickering again
" Bernice i want to buy this ! " the black woman yelled , waving a yellow summer dress in the air like a maniac " you brought half the clothes in crukking paris so far , just let me have this one , go find your own !"
the other woman snarled " i just like the bloody dress too , thats all "
" then buy one to " sighed the black woman giving up
" my god " gasped the other woman " my dear roz you know nothing about fashion do you , we cant both be seen in the same clothes ....oh just buy the damn dress "
roz smiled and walked to the counter to pay for her dress " thanks benny " she smiled , and winked " looks nicer on me anyway "
benny thought of a witty remark than decided a swear word seemed more appropriate .
......................................................................................................... The doctor and chris were sat in a magnificent garden somewhere in the center of paris , chris had no idea where they were but the doctor seemed to know
" i remember this garden opening " sighed the doctor pointing around with his question mark umbrella " back in the summer of 1578....."
Chris blocked out the sound of the doctor's voice and let his mind wander . They had been in paris for two days now , the doctor deciding they needed a real holiday full of sightseeing , good food and shopping . He had booked them all into the Hotel de Crillon , the tardis had been parked in the doctors suite , always a second ahead so no one could see it , then he had given them each a credit card and told them how much they had on it
" thats a lot of money for this time period " roz had said looking a bit unsure
" you bet ! " said chris with a smile like a school kid " think of all the things we can buy !"
" what i meant is " said roz looking at chris then turning to the doctor " can you afford it ? "
" roz there are untold riches deep within the tardis " he said looking out of the window and watching the tourist on the place de la concorde " think of it as pay day "
the thoughts drifted away as the doctor's voice reached him again
"........and then i got invited to the garden party by marie de Medici " the doctor said smiling looking at chris , then he looked at his watch " my my time flies , we better go and meet the girls at the cafe "
Sofia sat at the table inside the cafe , she was a tall elegant blonde woman and she was reading , not a novel or a magazine but the other customers minds , thoughts and feelings . The teenage girl sat at the bar was thinking " if i don't buy any food for a week i can buy that handbag and lose a bit of wait ". Sofia grew bored of hearing that stupid girls thoughts and lit a cigarette and inhaled deeply and cast her mind around the bar again , as an agent of the annuaire d'ombre she was only meant to read the minds of those who were also gifted and could be used or those who were different "non humain..étrangers " as her entraîneur d'ombre had once told her . Her mind floated around the cafe listening for anything interesting or just gossip that would entertain her for a while , her mind picked up on two young men at a table , the first one was thinking " that was the best sex i ever had last night , shall i tell him ?" the second was thinking " whens the best time to tell him I'm married with two kids ".
The doctor and chris entered the cafe and sat down and looked at the menu and spoke quietly to each other , sofia didn't even have to look at the doctor to know he was different . She could feel the energy surround him , she could taste the power he held , she gently let her mind reach into his , gently though there was no telling what he might do , and let herself see his thoughts .
planets...aliens ....hundreds of different aliens...blood....death herself making bets with the little man , sofia could see it all , it amazed her all the things she could see , never had she read such a vast mind .Suddenly her back hurt again and she left his mind . Had he known she was in there , rummaging around in his brain ? she had to make contact with the queen of hearts and tell her what was going on
